Everyone loves summer days, but a hot day in Vista, CA, can mean you need a blast of cold, refreshing air from the AC. Your car AC not working can seriously spoil your day. Fortunately, your friendly Ford dealer can fix the problem for you. These are a few possible causes of a malfunctioning AC.

Mold in the AC

If your AC is barely cooling the cabin, and you smell a moist, earthy smell, your AC probably has mold inside it. Mold spores float in the air, and they’re quickly drawn into the AC system. A car AC’s dark and moist ducts are a perfect breeding ground for mold. During the winter, when your AC isn’t being used, these spores can flourish and spread through the system.

Mold growth can block the airflow through the AC system. This decreases the cooling affecting your cabin and also spreads mold spores throughout your car. Our technicians can easily fix a mold problem by pouring an anti-mold solution into the AC and running it on full power. The solution will remove all traces of mold, increase airflow, and leave your cabin smelling fresh at the same time.

Refrigerant Leak

The AC depends on refrigerant. This substance draws in heat from the air, removes the moisture, and is then cooled and pumped into the cabin. The AC system is highly pressurized to allow the refrigerant to move swiftly through the system. The refrigerant also changes between gaseous and liquid states and then back again during the process.

Over time, parts of the AC system can become worn or damaged, and refrigerant can leak out. It’s impossible to see refrigerant in its gaseous state, and liquid refrigerant dissipates almost immediately in contact with the air. We’ll run a safe UV dye through the AC system and monitor its course. The UV solution allows us to easily pinpoint a leak, and then we’ll permanently seal it.

Worn Compressor Clutch

Your AC system consists of several components, including the condenser, compressor, evaporator, and dryer. Each component has a vital role to play, and the system needs precise timing to work effectively. When your AC is running correctly and the cabin is quiet, you may hear a slight click now and again. This click is made as the compressor switches on and off as it controls the cooling process.

The compressor is controlled by a clutch, which can become damaged over time. If the clutch doesn’t work, the compressor won’t switch on, which prevents the AC from working. We can easily install a new clutch to fix this problem.
